I've just been tagged by [profile] wordsthatfail

Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 random things, facts, goals, or habits about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged, listing their names and why you chose them. Don’t forget to leave them a comment (you’re it!) and to read your blog for instructions. You can’t tag a person who has tagged you. Since you can’t re-tag me, let me know when you’ve posted your blog so I can read the answers!

A/N: Don't own it. Total crack fic. (If you'll pardon the expression, ha, ha.) This is in response to the prodding with a large stick that [personal profile] marinwgave me based on a comment I made to [personal profile] xbedhead's wonderful 12 Steps. Still not thinking well enough for actual work. Enjoy it well it lasts. As always, O/C man is Dave.

...and so, so jet-lagged. Didn't sleep on the plane, and the Smalls woke up at 4:00 this morning and didn't go back to sleep. They're doing fine. Me, not so much.

But so many lovely things to read! Yay!

I'll post more when I'm human again.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

Okay, I know it's really a bit pathetic to wish a fictional character a happy birthday, but, hey. Jack turns 42 today. And he's aging nicely, don't you think? Maybe he'll get to go to Chuck-E-Cheese for his party!

(Many thanks to Doberman for pointing out this image.)

I'm feeling sad about the RCMP tonight. The story of Mayerthorpe is on CTV. That's where four officers were gunned down in cold blood three years ago, the biggest loss of life for the force in a single incident in 100 years. One of the constables had just graduated from the academy. He had only been on duty for 17 days. That sucks.

I'm in the doghouse for opening a $30 bottle of wine to use in a recipe. *looks innocent*

Who knew?

Dinner's going to be extra-yummy tonight!

To the person who baked the hot cross buns I bought today: They are paragons of light, fluffy goodness. You should be working someplace other than Safeway, but please don't leave. You'll be glad I remembered you in my will, 'cause I've died and gone to heaven.

That is all.

 Happy Robbie Burns Day!

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Just watched Michael Moore's Sicko, and I have to say it's a bit of an oversimplification of how rosey things are for Canadian Health Care. But I also have to say, having just been able to get a mammogram and ultrasound for free, that I am incredibly grateful to Tommy Douglas for his role in making that possible. And to dear old Kiefer, for helping with the fight to maintain the health care system. Just 'cause, you know, everything has to relate back to 24 somehow!

And that voice talking about humanity and winter? Just makes me swoon.

(For what it's worth, he says "were" three times in this clip, and he sounds perfectly normal to me!)

So this is the way it was, then. She wasn’t going to tell him. Dammit. For a moment he doubted himself. Was it true? Were they right about her? About him? He could feel the bile rising in his throat. No. Not her. Never her. So why? What was she afraid of? Why was she holding back?

He turned back to her, his lip in an angry curl.

“Why did you lie to me?”

His words lashed against the hard grey walls of the interrogation room, telegraphing the threat of what his hands would do if she failed to answer. It was only a matter of time before he got the truth, and they both knew it. She was quivering, cowering, reduced to tears. Like so many suspects before. Usually he was proud of his abilities. Not happy with them, necessarily. Although sometimes, with some suspects, he had to admit in the darkest part of himself that he truly enjoyed this part of his job. But not today. Seeing her afraid of him was almost more than he could bear. He had to do it. He couldn’t show any mercy. He knew they were watching.

“Because I thought you’d think less of me.” Audrey looked at him, imploring him to believe her. He was confused.

“You thought I’d think less of you for sleeping with someone when you thought I was dead?” It didn’t sound plausible, even to him. Sh*t. Come on, Audrey. You’ll have to do better than that. He thought about what was waiting for her if he failed.

She looked at him, eyes brimming. “No, Jack. I thought you’d think less of me for sleeping with someone who turned out to be a traitor.”

He looked at her, trying not to show how much her words hurt him. Trying not to let them see his heart breaking. Oh, Audrey. Sweetheart. Don’t you know me at all? How could you think that I would not be able to understand that?
